Tigers silence skeptics in style

Tigers silence skeptics in style

For millions of cricket lovers, 17 June, 2019 will be a watershed moment. On this day, Bangladesh cricket team not only won an important match in the World Cup 2019 but also silenced critics, detractors, skeptics and naysayers to prove that the team has developed a sense of belief and confidence.

Chasing a mammoth 321, the tigers reached the target at the 41.3 overs with seven wickets in hand. If one wants to talk about an emphatic roar then this has to be it.

The win is remarkable for three reasons: first, the ability of the team to chase a big target, the outstanding consistency of Shakib Al Hasan plus the dogged determination of the whole team during fielding. When Bangladesh won the toss and sent West Indies to bat first, countless fans gave up on any chance of winning because on a batting pitch, allowing the opponent to bat first has not had many fairy tale endings. But, the captain’s decision stands vindicated now. There was much criticism following the defeat to England, in which, Bangladesh allowed the English to bat despite winning the toss. Cricket analysts were foaming at the mouth censuring such a misguided move though against West Indies, the team has proved that winning with the pressure of a 300 plus total is not impossible.

Those who watched the match on Monday will go as far to say that Bangladesh made it look easy and entertaining. The match also saw Shakib Al Hasan re-affirm his position as the world’s number one all-rounder with a scintillating 124 not out at the crease. Hats off to Litton Das also because his 94 not out plus the three back to back sixers showed the world that these tigers are in the World Cup with a mission. The victory will boost for team, which still has four more matches to play, but more importantly, Bangladesh has yet again proven that they cannot be taken lightly at all. While fans and the nation bask in the glory of the fabulous win, it must be kept in mind that players are humans too – some days their form may not be up to the mark and luck may not be on their side so, a defeat or a mistake should not be met with virulent reaction.

Each player gives his best on the field and when we keep that in mind plus the fact that one cannot win all games, a defeat can be taken as a lesson for a better performance in the future.
