Mediterranean boat capsize

Writ filed seeking compensation  

UNB, Dhaka

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking Tk 1 crore as compensation for each of the families of 37 Bangladeshis who died in a boat capsize in the Mediterranean Sea on May 9 last.

The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasanand Justice KM Kamrul Kader is scheduled to hear the writ petition, said petitioner Md Emdadul Haque, a Supreme Court lawyer.
The writ also sought legal action against the fraud travel agencies and human trafficking gangs, and a report within 30 days on human trafficking as published by different newspapers.
Home, foreign, expatriates'welfareand overseas employment, and law secretaries, Inspector General of Police, and police supers of Sylhet and Noakhali have been made respondents to the writ filed on Sunday.
The petition also appealed to the court to issue a rule seeking explanation as to why the action of the authorities concerned to take action against the fraud travel agencies and human traffickers should not be declared illegal and why directives should not be given to take actions against them.
