Final phase of upazila polls today

The Election Commission (EC) is all set to hold the fifth and final phase of the upazila parishad elections in 21 upazilas today. A total of 241,476 voters—120,361 men and 121,115 women—will cast their votes at 657 booths in 94 polling stations across the country. The polling will start at 8 am and continue without a break till 4 pm.

The upazilas going to the polls today are Nakla in Sherpur district, Naldanga in Natore, Kamarkhand in Sirajganj, Sundarganj in Gaibandha, Rangabali in Patuakhali, Taltali in Barguna, Gazipur Sadar, Narayanganj Sadar, Madaripur Sadar, Kalukhali in Rajbari, Shayestaganj in Habiganj, Bancharampur and Bijoynagar in Brahmanbaria, Noakhali Sadar and Poba in Rajshahi, Purbadhal in Netrakona, Jamalpur in Sunamganj, Kotiadi in Kishoreganj, Mathbaria in Pirojpur, Chhagalnaiya in Feni and Dumuria in Khulna.

The election for the Noakhali chairman’s post will not be held as the chairman has been elected unopposed. However, polling for the vice-chairman and woman vice-chairman will be held. On the other hand, the election for the chairman’s post in Chhagolnaiya was suspended due to legal complications, but polling for the posts of vice-chairman and woman vice-chairman will be held.
