Sunday Chizoba scored a hat-trick as Abahani Limited trounced Rahmatganj MFS by 5-2 as the Bangladesh Premier League resumed yesterday at the Bangabanhdu National Stadium. Besides Sunday, Jibon and Jewel Rana added one goal each for Abahani while Ciyo Zunapio and Didarul Alam scored one goal each for Rahmatganj.

Dominating the better part of the match Abahani led the first half by 4-0 with emerging the an early lead through Sunday Chizoba who pushed a traditional long throw-in of Raihan Hassan from the goal-mouth melee on ninth minute (1-0).

Sunday Chizoba scored his second and as many for Abahani when Jewel Rana provided a forward pass and the Nigerian after an unstoppable run shot past the rival team goalkeeper (2-0). Jewel Rana, who could not score any goal in the previous14 matches of Abahani scored a beautiful goal on the day when he ran faster after receiving a ball outside the box and powered his right footer into net giving no chance to Rahmatganj keeper Titumir on 35th minute (3-0).

Jibon made the tally (4-0) on just 45th minute when he marked the target from a Sunday assistance inside the area. The scenario changed a bit in the second half with Rahmatganj looked better in counter attacks and scored two consecutive goals to threat the giants, though the favourites finally left the ground 5-1 win.

Ciyo Zunapio reduced the first one for Rahmatganj snatching the ball just yards from the box and edged past the advancing Abahani goalkeeper Shahidul Alam Sohel before sending the ball into open net on 65th minute (1-4). Rahmatganj inspired with reducing one worked hard to bounce back and five minutes later scored another one and this time it was a tremendous 20 yards long effort by Didarul Alam who stunned all with his powerful volley (2-4).

At the eleventh hour, Sunday scored his first hat-trick and 14th goal in the ongoing league to close the sheet on 5-1. Though, finally Abahani had not to face any further disappointment. They will have to be cautious about their keeping and defense line for the next matches of the AFC Cup against Manang Marshyangdhi and Minarva FC.

Mario Lemos, head coach of Abahani also agreed that they were not up the mark in the second half, as he said, “Really we could not play well in the second half Rahmat looked better and also scored two goals.”

“In fact when you would lead first half by 4-0 then in the second half you may lose concentration and it was happened to the boys. We have three days more in our hands to play the home match of AFC against Manang Marshyangdhi, we will work on that,” said Mario Lemos of Portugal.
