Mushfiq hurt during batting practice

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim  yesterday received injury on his right hand while batting practice at net ahead of the next important World Cup fixture against the West Indies at the Somerset County Cricket Ground in Taunton tomorrow. A ‘wonder’ delivery of pace spearhead Mustafizur Rahman directly hit Mushfiq’s right hand. Then the diminutive batsman could not take part at batting practice. At one stage, Mushfiq, dubbed as ‘Mr Dependable’ for his consistent performance, left the ground dropping his batting practice. But it’s not known immediately that how serious his injury was.

Bangladesh began their practice at local time 10:00am. The practice session rolled onto the ground in due time with the participation of all the players. Shakib Al Hasan has also joined the practice session after three days. He was also sustained injury. Keeping the next match against West Indies in mind, Bangladesh held their first day practice session which was opened up with the football game. Therefore, head coach Steve Rhodes and fielding coach Ryan Cook guided them in short and long fielding session before the start of the lengthy batting session.

Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim along with Shakib Al Hasan batted at net at the initial spell against whose Mustafizur Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraj coupled with local net bowlers of the county cricket ground.

Just 20 minutes after batting practice, Mushfiqur Rahim was abruptly seen coming out of the field dropping his gloves.

After being washed out the last match against Sri Lanka, Tigers spent their times since last two days at hotel lobby and outside movement. They held their first practice session in Taunton on Friday though that was an optional practice.

Moreover, a local net bowler also injured while bowling at net against Bangladesh batsmen. It is learnt that pace all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin played a shot which hit under the ear of a local net bowler that made him serious injured.

He was grounded after receiving the injury. Bangladesh team’s physio Thihan Chandramohan sent him hospital after providing him first aid. He has been kept under day-long observation.
