Shakib most dangerous player from Bangladesh camp: Ponting

TIMESNOWNEWS.COM, LONDON

Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has chosen the most dangerous player from Bangladesh dugout due to his experience and all-round skills.

The ICC World Cup 2019 is just a few days away. While many former cricketers and experts of the game have picked some of their favourites for the marquee event, former Australian skipper, two-time World Cup winner as skipper (thrice as a player), Ricky Ponting has picked up a player who will be the most dangerous from Bangladesh cricket team. Shakib Al Hasan, who is gearing up for his 4th World Cup appearance, would be a danger man for his all-round skills and experience; as per the former Australian.

The 44-year-old told Cricket Australia, “My danger man for Bangladesh is Shakib Al Hasan. He has been here for a long time. He scores in so different areas; he is very strong in square of the wicket. He strokes very well in backward point and third man.”

Further, Ponting also highlighted that despite Shakib's limitations as a bowler, he is more than a handy customer due to his street-smartness. “Shakib’s cleverness comes out in his bowling. He has never been a big turner of the ball, left arm off spinner [ Shakib ], his change of pace in bowling is quite amazing and he looks to be attacking. He uses the arm ball a lot more than other spinners. He is different than other spinners right now, most spinners bowl in the pitch and don’t give any scoring opportunities. But he is the other way, he keeps you in the pitch for the first couple of balls, change the pace and wait for the batsman to take him on.”

Shakib has been Bangladesh's go-to-man for long. While he was being criticised for missing out on the team's jersey launch for his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 edition, he more than made up for it with his all-round heroics in the recently-concluded tri-series involving Bangladesh, West Indies and hosts Ireland.
