Pvt varsity student’s body recovered from septic tank

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

Police recovered the body of a university student from a septic tank in Gazipur district yesterday morning, 10 days after he went missing from Dhaka. On May 12, Ismail Hossain Jeeshan, who hailed from Gachha, had gone missing from the Shyamoli area in the city. He was a driver partner of a ride-sharing service. He had remained traceless ever since he accepted a trip from Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to Gazipur.

Jeeshan was a final-year honours student of the European University of Bangladesh, said Jane Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station in the capital. He might have been murdered by rogues who wanted to rob his motorcycle, the police officer added.

While investigating the incident, police detained

one Hasibul Islam on Wednesday night.

Two general diaries were

filed with Gacha and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police stations in connection with Jeeshan’s disappearance, said sources.

On Wednesday night, a joint team of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and Gazipur police conducted a raid in the Kamarjuri area and arrested Hasibul Islam, who had hired Jeeshan for the trip to Gazipur from Dhaka. The law enforcers also recovered Jeeshan’s mobile phone and motorbike from Hasibul’s possession.

After interrogating Hasibul Islam, they recovered Jeeshan’s body from the septic tank of a house belonging to one Jahangir in the morning.

The body was sent to a local hospital morgue for autopsy.
