2 to die for murder in Khulna   

UNB, Khulna

A court here yesterday sentenced two people to death for killing a young man in 2015. The convicts are Raju, 30 and Ibrahim, 32 of Digholia upazila. Of them, Ibrahim was tried in absentia.

According to the prosecution, Ramjan Ali, 28, a van puller of Senati in the upazila was picked up by the convicts over previous enmity on December 12, 2015. He was found dead at Aronghata in the city 11 days later.

The victim’s brother filed a case with Digholia Police Station. Police submitted chargesheet against two people on December 8, 2016. Additional District and Sessions Judge Bushra Sayeda handed down the verdict.

2 diagnostic centres sealed off

A mobile court here on Tuesday shut down two diagnostic centres as they were conducting their activities illegally. Two executive magistrates from the district administration – Rony Khatun and Nazia Hossain accompanied by Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Alam Ifte Khayer conducted the mobile court in Aid Plus Diagnostic and Asthma Centre Limited as well as Saad Diagnostic in Luxmupur area of the city. They found that the centres were functioning without license and not complying with rules and regulations. The court also fined the two centres Taka 35,000 and Taka 30,000 respectively.

12 brokers arrested in Gazipur

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 12 alleged members of a broker gang at Gazipur Passport Office on Tuesday. The mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion led by Executive Magistrate Jannatul Fardous  arrested the gang during a raid at the passport office for allegedly cheating people. Later, the mobile courrt sentenced them to three to 10  days imprisonment.

Abdullah Al Mamun, camp commandar of RAB -1 of Purabari camp of Gazipur, said based on secret information , the law enforcers arrested 12 brokers from the passport office for unauthorised passport brokering. The gang was held along with fake documents and seals.

2 Keraniganj factories fined

UNB, Keraniganj

A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion on Tuesday fined two factories Tk 26 lakh for manufacturing adulterated foods. Yoko Food and Agro, and Meem Food factories were also sealed by the court.

Sarwar Alam, executive magistrate of RAB, said they conducted a drive in Godabagh and Kadamtali in the afternoon. “These factories manufactured 14 items of adulterated foods in unhygienic condition without the permission of BSTI,” he said.

The court fined Yoko Food and Agro Tk 16 lakh and Meem Food Tk 10 lakh.

Factory owner jailed in Barishal

A mobile court in a drive yesterday at lane 5 of Palaspur area in the city sealed off a factory and jailed factory owner for producing adulterated food and beverage items of eight famous brands and companies.

Syed Enamul Huq, sanitary inspector and food safety inspector of Barishal City Corporation, accompanying the mobile court led by Abdullah Al Mammon, administrative magistrate of district administration. During the drive the court seized huge amount of adulterated products of eight popular brands like Rollicks, Pran, Altime, Tiffin, Biskclub, produced in that factor by using packaging of those brands.

The court arrested Liton Haoladar and sent him to jail to one year imprisonment and sealed off the factory.
