Drug trader killed in ‘gunfight’

BSS, Meherpur

A drug trader was killed in a gunfight between two groups of drug traders at Karamdi village under Gangni Upazila of the district early hours yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Nazmul Hossain, 24, son of Nazrul Islam of Sahratala village of the Upazila.

On information, a team of Bamandi police camp rushed to the spot when two groups of drug traders exchanged gunshots at Karamdi village Matpara around 2am, Detective Branch (DB) of police of the district sources said.

Sensing the presence of police, the drug traders managed to flee the scene.

Later, police recovered the bullet-hit body of Nazmul from the spot and sent to Meherpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police also recovered one kg of ganja, a firearm and a motorcycle from the spot.

Nazmul was accused in five drugs-related cases, police said.
