Playmaker Mamunul regains old form

Former national team captain Mamunul Islam, who became in limelight after a long interval with a sensational winning strike in an AFC match against the Chennaiyin FC just to give Abahani Limited a life line to stay in the race, feels proud to be a part of the team’s victory.

Mamunul, long server playmaker of the national team as captain, led the national side as well as his club teams from front was a bit out of sight for last two seasons, as his executions were not like as he was.

Mamunul when talking to The Independent on Friday at Abahani tent, first of all expressed his emotion about the outstanding strike at the late hour against Chennaiyin FC, as the Sky-Blue eventually staged a epic comeback with a 3-2 win to cross the first phase hurdle of AFC Cup.  

Mamunul really looked a happy man for getting back to his real form after a long time frustration due to some minor injury problems which gave him trouble very often, his excellent performance tipped off to regain his real character.

However, Mamunul was very happy for the important win of Abahani and was thrilled for his involvement, as he said, “I feel proud to be a part of the team member and it is really something make you happy, if you have contribution to any success.”

Mamunul, who looked feels shy to tell about his strike said, In fact, it is result of your commitment, hard work, though these kinds of goals what Masih Saighani did from a free kick and I also scored one, it not always happens, it’s something miracle.”   “Thanks Allah, all credits goes to the Almighty just with his blessing I could make it success to score the goal to have an important win, now we have bright chance to move forward.”     

Mamunul also said that he got confidence through his performance in the match and also satisfied with his fitness, - “Actually, now I am only 30, I think still I have ability to give a lot, there are so many players who are more than 30, 32, 33 playing efficiently, so why not me.”
