Former national captains eulogized the players for their jaw-dropping performance in the Ireland’s Tri-nation success that propelled Bangladesh to their maiden title after a titanic battle against the West Indies.

They said the spellbinding victory that ended their trophy drought from the multi-nation tournament what they had missed in the erstwhile sixth occasion.

The victory was much-needed for them what they think will also be a big boost ahead of their tough mission in ICC Cricket World Cup, starting in United Kingdom (UK) on May 30.

Bangladesh first Test captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy said that they could go to the World Cup with good mindset after winning the nail-biting final showdown clash against West Indies.

“It’s a matter of proud and joy that we have won the tri-nation final,” said Naimur Rahman Durjoy, who is also an executive director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

“Before World Cup, the team has done well what was needed for the team. Now Bangladesh will go to World Cup with good mindset,” Durjoy told The Independent.

When asked about test prior to the World Cup, the former captain said, “Test is everywhere whether it is World Cup, triangular series and bilateral series.”

However, former captain Habibul Bashar Sumon said he had every belief that they will not miss to lift the trophy of the triangular series.

“The way we were playing I was confident that we will win the final if unusual anything is not happened,” Habibul Bashar Sumon said.

“Shakib’s final moment absence was a setback for us. In a sense, Shakib was a key player who does not play for the team in the vital moment. But nobody kept it in mind and performed their best. I’m happy that the team is in good stead,” Sumon said.

“I’ll say that we got what we wanted from the series before the World Cup. I’m happy for it,” he added.

Sumon said that they had needed a big success prior to the World Cup campaign

“I will say it needed for us. We needed a good beginning for the team. Whatever you practice it will come repeatedly in mind and it was needed for the team and the players as well. Now we can play pressure free cricket in World Cup. When we can go to the final, no one could say anything about it. How better we can play we have proved it yesterday (Friday),” he said.

“When we formed the squad for the World Cup, there were some concerned. Some of our players were injured and some of them are off-form. Actually we had a matter of concern of these issues. But we’re confident they will be back in form,” he maintained.

“Coming back in form was important for us prior to the World Cup. Now almost everybody have come back. In this tournament all could have performed,” he added.

When asked about faring well in World Cup now is possible, Bashar said, “We’re hopeful though it will be tough for all as there is no big difference among the teams. Each team has to play better cricket.”

“After this tournament, our hope somehow has increased. We have to play better cricket to fare well in World Cup. Hopefully we will play better cricket in the mega event,” he concluded.
