Unidentified youth found dead   

UNB, Cumilla

Police recovered the body of an unidentified youth from a primary school building in Sahebnagar in Sadar upazila yesterday morning. Sheikh Mahmudullah, in-charge of Mainamati police outpost, said that locals spotted the body of the youth at the veranda of the Sahebnagar Government Primary School in the morning and informed police. Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Comilla Medical College and Hospital morgue.

Eighth grader stabbed dead

UNB, Dhaka

An eighth grader was stabbed to death by unidentified men at Vuianpara of Khilgaon here on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Redowan, 14, from Meradia-Vuianpara area of Khilgaon. Inspector Bacchu Miya, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police outpost, said some unidentified men stabbed Redowan near his house leaving him injured critically.

9 houses gutted in Gazipur fire   

UNB, Gazipur

Nine houses were gutted as a fire broke out at Konabari Purbopara in the city on Friday night. Jakir Hossain, senior official of Joydebpur Fire Service, said the fire broke out in the house of one Habibur Rahman around 10:45pm and soon engulfed nine adjoining houses. On information, two firefighting units rushed in and doused the fire after two hours of frantic effort.

Woman ‘commits suicide’

UNB, Keraniganj

A housewife allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Jagannathpur here on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Selina, wife of Alam Mollah. Elias Hossain, sub-inspector of Keraniganj Model Police Station, said that Alam Mollah got married with Selina four years ago but they did not have any child. Over the issue, Alam used to torture her wife mentally. Selina, who was in a huff following analtercation with  her husband, committed suicide by hanging herself in her room around 11 pm. On information, police recovered the body.

DSCC mayor celebrates fourth year in office

UNB, Dhaka

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon on Friday celebrated his fourth year in office highlighting his various achievements. “I’ve initiated a positive change in urban management,” Khokon told the media after an Iftar and Dua Mahfil at Intercontinental Hotel.  When he took charge, he said the DSCC coffer was empty and roads were filled with holes and waste, with most of the street lights not working. “We’ve totally changed the city and the development is now visible,” he said. In four years, Khokon said that his administration has installed 41,143 LED street lights and installment of another 15,000 bulbs is underway in 18 newly-formed wards.

FF Ilias Ahmed’s death anniv today

BSS, Dhaka

The 28th death anniversary of freedom fighter, former parliament member and sports organiser Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury (Dada Bhai), a nephew of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be observed today. On the occasion, a milad and doa mahfil will be held on the day after Asr prayers at his house under Shibchar upazila in Madaripur district, said a press release of Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat. Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury was born on August 15 in 1934 in a Muslim sophisticated and landlord family at Duttapara Union in Shibchar upazila of the district.
