Cultural arena celebrates Tagore’s birth anniv today

With the theme ‘Rabindranath in Building a Humanitarian World’, the 158th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore is to be celebrated today in a befitting manner. Cultural arena is set to celebrate the occasion through various kinds of programmes.

As a part of the celebration, this year the main programme will be arranged on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segun Bagicha of the capital. Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni will join the inaugural ceremony in the Jatiya Natyashala auditorium of Shilpakala Academy at 3pm today.

Professor Emeritus of Dhaka University Bangla Department Anisuzzaman and Rabindra Sangeet singer, writer and researcher Prof Sanjida Khatun will attend the ceremony as special discussants.

Besides, a three-day exhibition on artworks of Rabindranath and cultural functions will be held.

On the other hand, Bangla Academy will organise an event featuring keynote speech, ‘Rabindra Award 2019 ceremony’ and cultural programme at its Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad auditorium.

Rabindra researcher Professor Begum Akter Kamal and Professor Shafiuddin Ahmed; and Rabindra Sangeet singer Iqbal Ahmed will be bestowed with ‘Rabindra Puroshkar 2019’ in the award giving ceremony today.

Professor Begum and Professor Shafiuddin will be awarded for their contribution to research on Tagore’s literature while Iqbal will be awarded for contribution to the practice of Tagore songs.

Bangla Academy President Emeritus Professor Anisuzzaman and Director General Habibullah Siraji will hand over flowers, certificates, crests and prize money.

At today’s event, Professor Anawarul Karim will deliver the keynote speech ‘Rabindranath’s Bangladesh: His thoughts on Education and Country’.

The programme will be presided over by Professor Anisuzzaman while the DG will deliver the welcome speech. It will end with a colourful cultural presentation on Rabindranath’s works.

Apart from capital Dhaka, local administrations will arrange different programmes at Shelaidah Kuthibarri in Kushtia, Shahjadpur in Sirajganj and Patisar in Naogaon and Dakkhindihi and Pithavog in Khulna, the places where Rabindranath had memoires, to celebrate the birth anniversary of the great poet.

Marking the day, Rabindramela, discussions and cultural functions will also be arranged.

Cultural Affairs Ministry and Bangla Academy will publish souvenirs and posters on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Kabiguru.

All divisions, departments and institutions under the Cultural Affairs Ministry and Bangla Academy will arrange special discussions and cultural functions to mark the day.

All educational institutions across the country, including in the capital will arrange cultural functions, discussions, essay and poem recitation competitions to celebrate the anniversary.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private channels will broadcast special programmes while newspapers will publish special supplements to mark the day.
