Zayan's body arrives today

Sheikh Selim's son-in-law still in ICU

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka
Sheikh Selim's son-in-law still in ICU

Moshiul Haque Chowdhary Prince, son-in-law of Awami League (AL) presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, has been taken to the ICU of a hospital in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He was admitted to the hospital after being critically injured in the series blasts that tore through churches and hotels in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, killing over 300 people and injuring hundreds.

Sheikh Selim, a paternal cousin of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, told the media yesterday that Prince suffered splinter injuries in his kidney and liver. He is now under observation for the next 72 hours and cannot be moved before two weeks, said the veteran AL leader.

On Sunday, Prince was having breakfast with his son, Zayan Chowdhury, at the restaurant of a hotel in Colombo when the explosion occurred.

Zayan, 8, is one of the victims of the series bombing in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday. His body will be brought home today (Wednesday).

On Monday, AL acting general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif told reporters: “Zayan's body will be brought home on Wednesday. His namaj-e-janaza will be held at Chairman Bari (Banani) field after Asar prayers on that day.”

Zayan will be buried at the Banani graveyard after the janaza, added Hanif.

After visiting the Janaza place of Zayan, Sheikh Selim called upon all to pray for his grandson's departed soul.

AL leaders, ministers and relatives of Sheikh Selim have been visiting Zayan’s Banani house since Monday morning to console the bereaved family. Zayan was living with his parents at Sheikh Selim’s Banani residence.

After visiting the Banani residence, AL advisory council member Tofail Ahmed told the media that he expected that the family members of Zayan would be able to overcome the grief. He also consoled the family members of Zayan.

In a message of condolence, law minister Annisul Huq yesterday expressed profound shock at the death of Zayan Chowdhury. He also consoled the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.
