Deal signed to hire consultant for Payra Port’s first terminal

The government yesterday signed an agreement with three Korean firms to appoint a consultant to build the first terminal of Payra port by 2021.

The Payra Port Authority signed the joint agreement with the three Korean companies at the secretariat in the capital.

The three companies are Kunhwa Engineering and Consulting Co Ltd, Daeyong Engineering Company Limited, and Hareem Architect and Planners Company Limited of South Korea.

Chairman of Payra Port Authority Commodore M Jahangir Alam, president of Kunhwa Engineering and Consulting Co Ltd Jeong Laenoh, director of Daeyong Engineering Company Limited Dae Jinkim and country director of Hareem Architect and Planners Company Limited of South Korea Eun Sangjo signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides in presence of Shipping Secretary Md Abdus Samad.

The government has already taken a plan to build two terminals at Payra port by 2021 and ensure 10.5 metre navigability in its channel. Under the plan, a Tk 3,982 crore project has been taken to set up the first terminal and other relevant facilities at Payra port by 2021.

Shipping secretary Abdus Samad and other high officials were present during the signing ceremony.

The first terminal of the Payra seaport will be constructed under a project titled ‘early bird’.

As per agreement, the contractors will have to complete the construction works within 36 months from the date of signing the agreements as the construction of the Payra seaport is one of the government’s 10 fast-track projects.

One terminal, three berths and other related construction works will be implemented under first phase. Besides, the channel will be maintained at 10.50 depth under the project, as per agreement.

As per agreement, the consultancy works will be done under a nuclear team through various sub-teams. Heerim Architects & Planners Company Limited will play as main consultant while Symbiotic Architects will work as sub-consultant of the project as per agreement. Kunhwa Engineering & Consulting Company Limited will be the lead-partner of the project.

As per agreement, the works of consultancy firms have divided in two phases—design and supervision phases.

The value of contract has fixed about to Tk 79.53 crore for consultancy works as per agreement.

As per agreement, the consultancy firms have to complete design by six months and supervision by 30 months of the project.

Construction of jetty with slope protection, utility service with yard facilities terminal, temporary jetty, re-construction of existing water development road, six and half kilometer long six-lane port access road, six-lane medium bridge, 1050 meter long six-lane river crossing bridge and procurement of marine craft with equipments will be under the project as per agreement.
