Seminar on ‘Universal Health Coverage to Combat Non-Communicable Diseases’ held

North South University has organized a seminar on ‘Universal Health Coverage to Combat Non-Communicable Diseases’ to observe World Health Day, 2019 on 6 April, 2019.

President National Hearth Foundation of Bangladesh, National Professor Brig. (Rtd).) Mr. Abdul Malik was present as the Chief Guest. Country Director, Medtronic Bangladesh Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Farrukh Alam was present as the Special Guest. Pro Vice-Chancellor (Designate) Prof. Dr. G.U. Ahsan was present as the Key Note Speaker.  The session was chaired by Professor & Chair, Department of Public Health, Dr. Dipak Kumar Mitra.

In the Speech of the Chief Guest National Professor Brig. (Rtd).) Mr. Abdul Malik said, "For the advancement of medical sciences, human being has made tremendous progress in preventing and controlling communicable diseases, but people are suffering from non-communicable diseases due to changes in living standards, unhealthy food habits, physical inactivity, drug addiction, mental stress etc.

 " To get rid of it, he suggested to increase awareness, keep healthy eating habits and do regular physical exercise. During this time, he emphasized the inclusion of moral, creative and physical education in the national curriculum.

Mr. Farrukh Alam said, In today's world, non-communicable diseases have become a very acute problem. We need to take necessary steps to make awareness and take preventive measures to control those diseases. During this time, he thanked the University authorities for organizing such a health awareness program.

Prof. Dr. G.U. Ahsan said, For the advancement of medical sciences, people’s standard of living and life expectancy have been improved. Bangladesh is committed to make all essential health services accessible and affordable to everyone in everywhere.

Among others, Deans of different schools, Directors, Administrative heads, Faculty members, other senior officials, and students were present during this seminar.
