Prisoner dies in police custody

A prisoner serving a life sentencer died in the district central jail on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Majid, 52, a prisoner who was awarded life term imprisonment on October 11, 2017 in connection with a murder case.

Abu Taleb, jailer of the district jail said around 10am Mazid felt pain in his chest and after being taken to the Sadar Hospital, doctor declared him dead.

Girl dies after mother ‘slaps’

A six-years-old girl died on Sunday morning after reportedly being slapped by her mother for refusing to eat rice in Hazampara area of Shailkupa Upazila.

The deceased was identified as Jannatul, 6, the daughter of Aleya Begum.

Aleya slapped Jannatul as she did not want to eat rice, police said. The girl fell sick after being slapped and was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where doctor pronounced her dead, said Ayubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Shailkupa Police Station. Police have arrested the woman.

Two arrested with stolen car

Detectives arrested two people and recovered a stolen private car from Boilor area in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh on Sunday evening.

The arrestees are Md Harun-or-Rashid, 25, and Md Himel, 30, hailing from Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh.

On information, a team of detective branch (DB) of police led by its sub-inspector Mohammad Moniruzzaman raided the area and arrested them. Police also recovered a stolen private car from their possession, said Shah Kamal Akanda, officer-in-charge of DB, Mymensingh.
