Car catches fire in Chattogram

UNB, Chattogram

A private car caught fire at Tiger-pass crossing after its gas cylinder exploded. However, no casualty was reported in the accident. Jasim Uddin, Deputy Director of local Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the private car went up in flames as its gas cylinder exploded at 7 pm.

On information, a firefighting unit from Agrabad rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze. The FSCD estimate a financial loss of around Tk 5 lac from the incident, almost all of it the depreciated value of the car.

Aviation safety seminar held

BSS, Dhaka

Novoair, one of the local private airlines held a seminar here on aviation safety to discuss about its flight safety measures with officials of its own and Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB). CAAB member operation and planning Air Commodore Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman and principal operations inspector Captain Fariduzzaman took part from CAAB side while Novoair Managing Director Mofizur Rahman was in the chair at the seminar held on Wednesday, a press release said here yesterday.

Mofizur Rahman said Novoair always gives top priority to flight Safety and not hesitate to invest for safety assurance.

3 held with counterfeit notes

BSS, Chattogram

Police in separate drives arrested three persons including two women and recovered counterfeit notes of Taka 1.35 lakh from Chattogram and Cumilla on Wednesday. Police arrested Shapna Begum Tania, 30, and M Shamim, 21, with 135 counterfeit notes of Taka 1000 from Station Road area under Kotwali police station in Chattagram.

After their confessional statement, police arrested Ferdousi Begum, 52, from Cumilla. Different cases were pending against them with different police stations, said M Mohsin, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali police station.

Youth found dead in Rajshahi

UNB, Rajshahi

Police recovered the body of a young man from paddy field in Bilsuti area of Baghmara upazila on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Kamrul Islam, 28, son of Chayen Uddin, of Ambaria village in the upazila.

Police arrested Ranju, 48, in connection with the incident. Locals said Kamrul came out riding his uncle's motorcycle on Tuesday afternoon and didn't return home.

On Wednesday around 8am some people spotted a motorcycle and the body of Kamrul in the paddy field and informed the police.  He might have been killed over loan business, locals said.

National Healthcare Week observed at United Hospital

Staff Reporter, Dhaka

United Hospital observed National Healthcare Week 2019 in a befitting manner in the capital recently, says a press release.  A free health checkup booth was inaugurated at the hospital lobby area by Mohammad Faizur Rahman, CEO of United Hospital in presence of hospital doctor, nurses and other officials.

More than five hundred patients and their family members took free health check up on the ocassion. Dr Shagufa Anwar, chief communication & business development of United Hospital thanked the hospital’s consultant and nurses for their dedicated service for National Health Service Week -2019 (16-20 April).
