Our Correspondent, Jhenidah

Even as the nation continued to express outrage at the alleged sexual abuse and the subsequent horrific killing of Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a madrashah student at Sonagazi, in Feni, the headmaster of Al Hera Government Primary school was thrashed and handed over to police after he had allegedly violated three minor girls of the school. The institution was set up by the Jamaat-e-Islami. The alleged teacher was identified as Abdus Salam, son of late Abdul Matin Munshi, of Dhopaghata-Gobindapur, under Jhenidfah municipality. He was arrested on Wednesday noon after the guardians started beating him up in the school. The guardian of a girl student alleged the headmaster had touched the sensitive parts of his daughter, but he had kept mum fearing reprisal, as the school had been established by Jamaat men a few years back. Recently, it was nationalised. Jhenidah Sadar police station officer in charge Mijanur Rahman Khan said the headmaster had been arrested for his alleged sexual abuse of the three girls. He said Abdus Salam had been harassing the three minor students of Class IV for the past couple of months. After the guardians came to know about the incident, they gathered at the school premises and dragged the headmaster and beat him up. Later, the headmaster was handed over to the police in the afternoon. Shariful Islam of Kamarkundu village lodged a complaint against the headmaster and a case has been filed with Jhenidah Sadar police station. “The arrested headmaster will be sent to Jhenidah court,” Mijanur Rahman Khan said.
