Sabbir Hossain’s all-around show engineered Shinepukur Cricket Club to post their maiden victory when they thrashed Uttara Sporting Club by comprehensive eight wickets in the low-scoring fifth-round fixture of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah yesterday.

The winning team, who are comparatively newer at country’s top-tier domestic competition, lifted them from the blushes of the rock-bottom place since having last four matches. They are now languishing at fourth place from the bottom, just above Uttara SC, BKSP and Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity.

Even though all the four teams chalked up the identical two points, Shinepukur topped among them due to better net run-rate of 0.161 points. Khelaghar have -0.184 points, while BKSP scored -0.364 and Uttara earned -1.37 points.

Chasing the paltry target of 146, Shinepukur Cricket Club started batting in dominating fashion from the initial stage of the fiddle. Sabbir was aggressive more than Anik and brought up his fifty. They finally gave a brilliant start as they scored 117 for the opening partnership before Shadman Islam Anik was out for 37.

Sabbir Hossain then tried to sail them through with Amit Hasan beside carrying out his personal trait though the all-rounder fell a run short of his blistering century.

When he was out, Shinepukur team were just a run away from their maiden victory what Amit Hasan finished in emphatic fashion with a boundary.

Sabbir played a whirlwind innings of 99. He clubbed seven sixes and as many fours in his 72-ball knock. Later he was named for the player of the match. Amith was left unbeaten on six.

Earlier, Uttara Sporting Club made a shocking start after being sent in to bat on Fatullah’s batting surface as they lost their four top-order batsmen for 58. They fell into further trouble when they mislaid another four wickets in the space of just 27 runs while they were tattering at 85-8, the precarious situation they created from where they did not recover any longer.

Finally they managed to score 145 before being skittled out for a paltry total. Not to get ably support from the other end, Minhajul Abedin remained unbeaten on 51. His top-score of an unbeaten 51 lifted  Uttara’s total to 145. The middle-order batsman clouted 73-ball 51, laced with half-a-dozen boundaries to be remained unbeaten.

Tanzid Hasan (25), captain Mohimenul Khan (21) and Anisul Islam Emon (13) were the other mentionable contributors to Uttara’s paltry total.

Right-arm medium fast-bowler Sabbir Hossain grabbed three wickets and left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan claimed two wickets for the winners.
