‘Mugger’ among 2 shot in capital

Two people, including a ‘mugger’ were shot yesterday in the capital’s Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover of Gulistan. The victims were identified as Suza Uddin (37), an engineer of Navana Company and Zahidul Islam Sohag (40), an alleged mugger. They were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said Bacchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.

He said, two bullet-hit people admitted to the hospital. Now they are out of danger. However, Sohag was arrested by the Paltan Thana Police. Mahamudul Haque, officer in charge (OC) of Paltan Police Station said that they were informed about the matter.

However, the OC said, “The bullet-hit Sohag himself a snatcher. During the incident he was injured by himself. “ OC Mahmudul Haque said that Sohag, who was involved in the robbery of Suza. Suza was going to Nawabpur, walking to the east side of the road. At the same time two motorcyclists on the opposite side were following him. At one stage, two people mounting out from the bike and tried to snatch. But Shuza prevented it.

Unable to take the bag Sohag beat Suza and shot him. Then Suza gave the bag but at one stage of scrupling Sohag was also shot.

Later, another snatcher came to them and Sohag gave the bag to him. The snatcher ran away with that bag. A witness told the police at the time, said OC Mahamudul

Locals and eyewitness said that the victims were walking by and suddenly some youths wearing helmet fired to them. Later, both of them were taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, they snatched a bag from Suza but there were no money rather some officials’ papers. Sohag claimed that he is a truck driver and hail from Faridpur. He came to Dhaka yesterday. “Case will be filed in this regard. Four bullet shell were recovered from the spot,” said the OC.
