Long-term master plan progressing fast

Formulation work of a long-term master plan is progressing fast aims at massive development in Rajshahi’s diversified sectors including installation of Metro-rail. With overall assistance of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), Power China, the ever largest company in China, will implement development projects based on the master plan.

To this end, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between RCC and Power China is expected to be signed within near future after finalisation of the master plan upon successful completion of discussion of both the sides.

This was revealed in a view-sharing meeting with all stakeholders related to the master plan issue at city bhaban conference hall here yesterday afternoon with RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton in the chair. According to the master plan, city protection embankment along the river Padma will be constructed where amusement resort will be installed firstly.

In addition to establishing general and specialized hospital, Shahmukhdum Airport will be expanded and developed. City’s drainage and transportation systems and waste management will also be improved.

Under the public transportation system, elevated expressway, Metrorail and flyover will be promoted side by side with road widening and lightening.

In his remarks, Mayor Liton says Rajshahi city dwellers will enjoy massive development facilities after successful implementation of the project.

 “We are committed to implement projects involving more than Taka 5,000 crore within five years,” he asserted.

RCC Chief Executive Officer Shawgatul Alam, Secretary Rejaul Karim, Chief Engineer Ashraful Haque, Chief Revenue Officer Shahana Akhter Jahan and others concerned were present at the meeting.
