Bangladeshi documentary film ‘Obolombon’ (Belonging), directed by Abid Hossain Khan, won two awards, namely Wouter Barendrecht Award and G2D Post Production Award, at the 17th edition of Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF). The awards were given at a prize giving ceremony at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai North, Hong Kong on Wednesday.

‘Belonging’ is a Khona Talkies production which has been produced by Rubaiyat Hossain and Aadnan Imtiaz Ahmed. Told from the point of view of a six-year-old girl Nushaida in search of her parents, ‘Belonging’ is Abid Hossain Khan’s first feature-length film, which examines the tragedy of the Muslim-majority Rohingya people through Nushaida as she starts a journey to find her parents in refugee camps in Bangladesh after becoming separated from them while fleeing Myanmar.

‘Belonging’ also received the Bangladesh Government Film Fund for documentary in 2018-19 session.

HAF is a leading film-financing platform in Asia. The projects, making this year’s shortlist, selected from more than 350 projects, came from 10 countries and territories across the region, including Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines and South Korea.

Previously, the fiction project ‘Made in Bangladesh’ by Rubaiyat Hossain participated in the same platform in 2017. l
