Govt urged to allow coaching centres open

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

Leaders of the Association of Shadow Education Bangladesh (ASEB) yesterday called upon the government to allow the coaching centres open during the public examinations.

ASEB convener Emadul Haque in his written statement said law enforcers nabbed at least 190 persons for their alleged involvement in leaking question papers of different public examinations during the period of 2017-2019. But no persons or teachers engaged in coaching centre business were found in the list of the arrestees.

It is presumed that four persons of the total arrestees were once part-time teachers of coaching centres.

He came up with the statement at a press conference at ASEB office in the capital. Among others, ASEB joint secretaries Mahamudul Hasan Sohag, Mahabub Arefin, Shamseara Khan, Akmal Hossain and Palash Sarker, were present.

Emadul Haque said the government directed authorities of all coaching centres to keep those closed for the first time during secondary school certificate (SSC) examinations in 2018. But there were several incidents of question papers leak during the exams.

He said such observations clearly reveal that the coaching centres are not involved in any sort of question paper leak.

“We urge the government not to issue any directive to keep the coaching centres closed during public examinations as it hampers the educations of a large number of students,” he added.
