Prime Doleshwar post facile win

Saif Hasan smashed hundred as Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club romped to a six-wicket victory over Gazi Group Cricketers in their fourth-round encounter of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday.

By winning the match, Doleshwar chalked up six points from their four matches and once again jumped to third position on the points-table from sixth position with better net run-rate as four teams at the moment scored six points in their kitty.

Chasing the target, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club though lost Shykat Ali cheaply did not face any big trouble as they put on their required runs in 45.5 overs. They clobbered together 51 for the second-wicket between Saif Hassan and Farhad Hossain and another 89 for the third-wicket between Saif and Marshall Ayub, 33 for the fourth-wicket stand of Saif and Saad Nasim, while unbeaten 42 between Saad and Forhad Reza.

Saif Hassan clobbered half-a-dozen sixes and four boundaries in his 124-ball 102.

Earlier, Gazi Group Cricketers fell into devastation from Prime Doleshwar’s bowlers’ combo attack especially medium fast-bowlers Forhad Reza and Shykat Ali after being put in to bat.

The duo shared eight spoils between them. Of them, on-song Forhad, who grabbed five wickets alone, scythed through top and lower order batsmen. Forhad Reza who was named player of the match, earlier contributed 21 runs to team total. Shykat, who snared three wickets for Doleshwar, sliced through the middle-order batsmen.

They were aided by left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny, who bagged two wickets that skittled out Gazi Cricketers for 230 in 49.1 overs. Parvez Rasool clouted 67 in a Gazi Cricketers total of 230, which was boosted by fifth-wicket stand of 104 between Shamsur Rahman Shuvo and Parvez.

At BKSP Ground-3 in Savar, Brothers Union edged out Uttara Sporting Club by comprehensive eight wickets to claim their second victory out of four outings.

Brothers Union got off to a fly start as they mustered 161 for the opening wicket of Mizamur Rahman and Zunaid Siddique. Opener Mizanur smacked 108 -the first in current DPL and overall third in his List-A career- off 133, hitting 10 boundaries and five sixes.

Zunaid fell eight runs short of his hundred but when he was holed out for 92, Brothers were 11 runs away from victory. Zunaid slammed five boundaries in his 112-ball 92.

Fazle Mahmud partnered Chirag Jani did the rest of the work. Mahmud remained unbeaten on 57 with Jani making nine. Later Mizanur Rahman was adjudged player of the match for his batting display.

Uttara Sporting Club, earlier, compiled 264 for eight in their stipulated 50 overs largely thanks to Tanzid Hasan (75), Mohimenul Khan (64) and Anisul Islam Emon (58).

Right-arm off break Sharifullah and medium fast-bowler Chirag Jani picked up two wickets each for the winning side.

Elsewhere at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity crafted their maiden victory by thrashing Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) by 27 runs.

Khelaghar opted to bat first after winning the foil and compiled 212 for eight rode on Robiul Islam Robi’s 75 and Mahidul Islam Ankon’s 49. Amit Majumdar (23) and Robiul Haque (not out 19) also contributed to the fight total of 212-8.

Hasan Murad scalped three and Shamim Hossain Patwary hauled two wickets for the BKSP.

In reply, BKSP managed to put on 189 for nine in 50 overs, where Shamim Patwary top-scored for BKSP with 56. Sumon Khan remained stranded on 24.
