Passenger held at airport with yaba, hemp

UNB, Chattogram

The Airport authorities arrested a passenger at Shah Amanat International Airport here yesterday morning for carrying 540 yaba pills and 200 gram hemp.

The arrestee is Jamir Uddin, hailing from Hathazari upazila and a passenger of Abu Dhabi-bound Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Wing commander ABM Sarwar-e-Zaman, manager of the airport, said that the drugs were concealed inside Jamir's shoes in a unique way and those were detected during scanning.

12 injured  in Khulna

At least 12 people were injured in a clash between the supporters of two chairman candidates at Chuknagar bazar in Dumuria upazila on Monday night centring the upcoming third-phase upazila election.

Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dumuria Police Station said that, the clash ensued between the supporters of Awami League candidate Mostafa Sarwar and another candidate Gazi Ejaj around 10 pm.

A chase and counter-chase took place and they hurled brick chips at each other, leaving 12 people injured.

The injured were admitted to Khulna Medical College and Hospital.

Pvt car driver shot dead

UNB, Dhaka

A private car driver was gunned down by two unknown miscreants in Merul Badda of the city on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Md Julhas Molla, 35, son of Soleman Molla of Savar.

Locals said Julhas came out by his private car to buy some medicine at a nearby medical store in the area around 9:30pm when two miscreants opened fire aiming him, leaving him critically injured.

Later he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead around 10:30 pm, said hospital police camp in-charge Inspector Bachchu Mia.
