Modi terms Bangladesh-India ties as a golden chapter

Emphasising the need for enhancing greater strategic confidence in South Asian geopolitics, Indian High

Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das said Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, has  termed the friendly relation between Bangladesh and India as the ‘sonali adhyay’ (golden chapter) and  her effort will be directed to deepen it in the days to come.

Riva Ganguly came up with these remarks while delivering her speech at a reception to welcome her organised by India-Bangladesh Friendship Society on Monday at Dhaka Club.

Indian High Commissioner said she feels very comfortable as the India-Bangladesh Friendship Society has organised the function on the month of March, in which month Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Architect of independent Bangladesh gave his historic March 7 speech.

India-Bangladesh Friendship Society has also given farewell to Indian Deputy High Commissioner Dr Adarsh Swaika, who is leaving the country.  

The Asian Age Editorial Board Chairman and the Adviser to India-Bangladesh Friendship Society Shoeb Chodhury said the friendly ties in the areas like diplomatic, cultural, political, and economic along with people to people interaction are outstanding between the two countries. He also recalled unique diplomatic career of diplomat Riva Ganguly Das who has built her career by working in various countries of the world.

Barrister Amirul Islam said the conventional and unconventional relation between Bangladesh and  India has reached a new height and in future it will be enhanced with a view to achieving dynamics.

Professor Dr Atiur Rahman said the contribution of India to achieve the independence of Bangladesh is unforgettable in history. The infrastructure between India and Bangladesh is complementary.

Former secretary and Ambassador Waliuir Rahman said the diplomatic chain between Bangladesh and India is unbroken and it remains in win-win situation between the countries in future.

The function was also addressed by India-Bangladesh Friendship Society General Secretary Subir Kushari with Dhaka University Emeritus Professor A K Azad Chowdhury in the chair.
