Tribute to language heroes

'Amar Ekushey', the Language Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day was observed through many programmes in different districts yesterday paying rich tribute to the Language Movement Martyrs. Our Panchagarh correspondent adds: Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day was observed in the district in befitting manner paying rich tribute to the martyrs.

Leaders of different political parties, socio cultural and professional organisations and people from all walks of life gathered at the central Shaheed Minar to pay homage to the Language Movement heroes and placed wreaths one after another.

To mark the day, the district administration has chalked out day-long programme including discussion meeting, milad mahfil, poetry recitation, arts competition for the children and cultural function in the district.

Deputy commissioner of Panchagarh Sabina Yasmin opened the day programme by placing wreaths at central Shaheed Minar at zero hours. Police super Gias Uddin Ahamed and others high officials also placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.

Our Chuadanga correspondent adds: The day was observed through different programmes in Chuadanga yesterday. The programmes included placing wreaths at Shaheed Minars, rallies, discussion meetings, cultural functions, etc.

The programmes were arranged by educational institutions, political parties and different socio-organisations. A three-day-long book fair was arranged under the auspices of district administration.  A discussion meeting was held on the campus of Chuadanga Government College. Solaiman Hoque Joarder, MP, Gopal Chandra Das, DC, and Mahbubur Rahman, SP addressed the meeting, among others.

Our Tangail correspondent adds: Tangail district administration, different political parties, educational institutions, NGOs, Tangail Press Club chalked out different programmes to mark the day.
