‘Impose ban on activities of anti-liberation forces’

International Mother Language Day observed in cities

The Shaheed Dibas and International Mother Language Day-2019 was observed in different metropolitan cities yesterday. Different political parties, their front organisations as well as socio-cultural organisations have taken various programmes to pay their homage to the language martyrs all day long.

Staff Reporter, Barishal: People of all walks of life yesterday observed the day with due respect and demanded ban on the activities of anti liberation forces.

State Minister for water resource Zahid Faruk, MP, Abul Hasanat Abdullah MP, Md Shah Alam, MP and city Mayor Serniabat Sadik Abdullah, representatives of more than 300 socio-cultural and voluntary organisations wearing black badges paid tribute to the martyrs of the language movement of 1952 by placing wreath at the altar of the Central Shaheed Minar in the city from early yesterday.

Barisal Sangskritik Sangathan Samannay Parishad, a forum of 27 cultural organisation of the city, held their programme at 7am yesterday and brought out ‘Probhat ferry’ that paraded main roads in the city.  Later, a discussion meeting was also held on the Barisal Central Shaheed Minar premises. Speakers demanded ban on the activities of political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, which are incompetent to get registered as per the registration act for political parties introduced by the government.

Special prayers were held at different religious prayer places and organisations for the blessings of the departed souls of the martyrs of the language and liberation movement and welfare of the country and nation.

BSS adds from Khulna: Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque pays tribute to the Language Movement heroes at one minute past midnight last night at Shaheed Minar of City’s Shaheed Hadis Park.

Later, Muktijoddha Sangsad Khulna City and District Unit Command Council, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Lokman Hossain Mia, placed floral wreaths there.Art and essay competitions for the children was also held.
