President, PM, leaders mourn deaths

President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, leader of the opposition HM Ershad among others have expressed their profound shocks at the loss of lives of many people in a fire in Chawkbazar area of the Old Dhaka on Wednesday night. In a condolence message, President M Abdul Hamid conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

President Hamid asked all concerned authorities to stand by the injured persons and bereaved families of the deceased. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also expressed profound shock at the fire incident in Chawkbazar area of Old Dhaka.

The prime minister asked all concerned authorities for proper treatment of the injured persons and to provide necessary support to the families of the deceased, PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim told.

The prime minister conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Expressing deep sock at huge loss of lives in Chawkbazar fire incident, leader of the opposition in parliament Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman HM Ershad yesterday urged the government to launch an investigation into the incident.

In the statement, he also demanded the governments take proper actions against those responsible for the fire incident.

The JP chairman also urged the government to upgrade the fire extinguishing system after properly evaluating its current capacity.

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud yesterday expressed deep shock at the loss of at least 70 lives in the fire incident of Old Dhaka.

The British Secretary of State for Department for International Development Penny Mordaunt has expressed deep shock over the loss of lives following the Chawkbazar fire incident.
