Expectations of people surely to be fulfilled: PM

UNB, Abu Dhabi

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said the Awami League government will surely fulfill the expectations of people for which they voted the party to power for the third consecutive term. "We'll surely fulfill the expectations of people and take the country forward through ensuring balanced development," she said. The Prime Minister was addressing a views-exchange meeting with the expatriates living in the United Arab Emirates. The Bangladesh embassy organised the programme at St Regis hotel. Sheikh Hasina said the people of the country, especially the youth and women, spontaneously cast their votes for Awami League.

"People put their trust and faith in us as they witnessed tremendous development in the country in the last 10 years," she said. Sheikh Hasina reiterated her firm stance against terrorism, militancy, drugs and corruption. "To eliminate these social menaces, the government will do whatever is needed."

The Prime Minister said the drive against terrorism, militancy, drugs and corruption will continue.

Talking about the Rohingya issue, she said they are the

citizens of Myanmar and they have to take back their nationals. The government has taken a number of steps to send the Rohingyas back to their homeland, she said. The Prime Minister said the government has been taking numerous development activities for the last 10 years so that people can live keeping their heads high.

Hasina said the government wants to send skilled manpower to various countries and set up a number of training centres in the country for that purpose.

She urged the expatriate Bangladeshis to abide by the laws, cultures and customs of the respective countries they are living.

"Please don't do anything that may force you to land in jail," she said adding that the expatriates should remain careful so the country's image does not get tarnished in any way because of their activities.

Terming her visit to the UAE very successful, the Prime Minister said she got a positive response from the UAE government about investment and other issues. Hasina said the expatriates contributed a lot to the economic development of the country and requested them to invest in Bangladesh as the present world is of economic diplomacy.
