2 major UAE firms keen to invest in Bangladesh

BSS, Abu Dhabi

Two major UAE companies – Lulu Group International and NMC Group – yesterday expressed their keenness to invest in Bangladesh, particularly in the areas of healthcare, hotel, shopping mall and tourism. Chairman and Managing Director of Lulu Group Yusuff Ali and Founder and Chairman of NMC Group Dr B R Shetty expressed their keenness during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her hotel suite in Abu Dhabi.

PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters about the Prime Minister’s interaction with the two top business leaders of UAE. Lulu Group Chairman said Bangladesh has emerged as a very potential area for investment in the tourism and hyper shopping mall and sought land in Dhaka or adjacent areas.

The group has a plan to construct a shopping mall which would create opportunities for about 5,000 people and have a convention center and car parking facilities for 3,000 vehicles.

Yusuff Ali highlighted some of the projects implemented by the Lulu Group in different countries.

The Prime Minister said Bangladesh is ready to welcome foreign investments for the country’s development. She assured them of allocating necessary land and urged them to visit Bangladesh to have firsthand experience for implementing their business plan.

Bangladesh has offered very attractive facilities for foreign investors including duty-free regime for them.

The founder of NMC Group showed interest to expand its humanitarian activities and healthcare services in Bangladesh based on the company’s policy – “free treatment, quality, affordability and ethical practice.”

The Prime Minister welcomed the keenness of the NMC Group and urged them to come up with a proposal for construction of hospitals for the treatment of cancer and cardiac diseases.
