No gas in capital for 12 hrs from this evening

Supply to resume today in Ctg
Staff Reporters, Dhaka and Ctg

Gas supply in most parts of the capital will remain suspended for 12 hours starting from this evening while supply of gas to households in Chattogram city is likely to resume today. The disruption in Dhaka was due to the relocation of the gas pipelines to facilitate the construction works of Metro Rail Project while the disruption in the port city was caused by failure to complete the repair works in Halishahar area. The Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited yesterday said the gas supply in the capital will remain disrupted from 6:00pm Tuesday until 6:00am Wednesday as the authorities concerned will shift gas pipelines to facilitate the construction works of the metro rail.

The areas in Dhaka which will be affected due to the shifting of pipelines are Mirpur, Shyamoli, Agargaon, Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Hazaribagh, Dhaka University, BUET, Shahbagh, Green Road, all areas of Old Dhaka, Minto Road, Bangabhaban, Gono Bhaban, Jatiya Sangsad and its adjacent areas, Nandipara, Gopibagh, Swamibagh, Rampura, Banasree, Motijheel, Kamalapur and its surrounding areas.

The gas supply may be disrupted or low pressure may hit these areas. The gas valves will be replaced at Dhanmondi, Moghbazar and Dhaka University area while the repair work for leakage at Khilgaon area will also take place during the time.

Titas authorities regret for the temporary inconvenience for the disruption of gas supply.

On Saturday, gas supply to tens of thousands of households, factories and other establishments in the capital and its adjoining areas came to a complete or partial halt because of a technical glitch at Ashulia gas station.

Meanwhile, in Chattogram city the gas line was cut off during digging of a canal by city corporation workers and the repair works couldn’t completed but the connections are supposed to be restored by this morning, said Anupam Dutta, customer relation manager of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company (KGDCL).

“We have found the fault. The gas connection was disrupted as supply line leaked under 15-feet ground. We are trying our level best to restore the gas connection with the area as early as possible.  I hope by Tuesday morning the residents will get gas,” said Anupam adding that we are working to replace the pipe as early as possible.

The KGDCL suspended gas supply to some parts of the city on Saturday evening after a leak developed in a gas pipeline.
