Champs happy to form a balanced side

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

The participating club’s teams of the upcoming Dhaka Premier League (DPL) delivered their mixed-bag reaction after picking local players for their respective teams from the DPL Players’ Draft-2019 arranged by Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) yesterday. Holders Abahani Club Limited among the 12 clubs teams formed the better and well-balanced team with a crop of national team players including Mehidy Hasan Miraj, Rubel Hossain, Mohamamd Mithun and Mohammad Saifuddin.

They have earlier retained three players of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, the players that will surely bolster Abahani’s batting and bowling line-up. Abahani’s representatives expressed their satisfaction to form a well-balanced team for the forthcoming DPL, which will begin on February 8.

Khaled Mahmud Sujon, head coach of Abahani, said that the team they have formed are good though they miss some of their expected players.

“We’re very much satisfied,” said Khaled Mahmud Sujon.

“We have formed almost the same team what we had last year. Probably we missed some players, where we have missed Bijoy (Anamul Haque),” Sujon told The Independent after the DPL players’ draft at the Ball room of the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital  yesterday.

“Abahani always tries to form their team to fight for Championship. This year we will do the same thing. We have Mashrafe (Bin Mortaza), who is unparallel in and on-field performance. We will get him almost every match of the tournament. We’re happy that he will play throughout the tournament. Initially, he will miss two more matches. But then we could play all the matches,” he added. Jalal Younus, vice-chairman of the Abahani cricket committee, said that their team has been better for the BPL championship fight.

“The team has been good. It retains three players where Mashrafe is there. He will lead the side. He is very serious. We have also picked some good players from the players’ draft. Overall, we will go for championship,” Jalal Younus viewed.

Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club head coach Mizanur Rahman Babul said that they didn’t get their expected players what they planned to pick from the draft. But he said that they grabbed the crop so far will be able to fight for the championship.

“It has been a mediocre team. We have to comparatively toil hard to form our team this year than other years,” said Mizanur Rahman Babul.

“We could have formed a team but I will not say it a name big team. But it has a good combination up to bottom. In that case, if we could maintain this good bonding and if the players keep fit and sound, it’s obviously possible to go a good place,” he added.

Shinepukur Cricket Club head coach Talha Jubair said that they will try to reach at their initial destination bettering their previous result after forming a good side.
