Youth ‘tortured’ to death in Ctg over love affairs
UNB, Chattogram

A young man who was reportedly tortured for two days over his love affairs with a girl at Katrikpur village in Fatikchhari upazila died on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Shimul Mahajan, 22, son of late Anil Mahajan of the village. Quoting locals, Sheikh Abdullah, officer-in-charge of Fatikchhari Police Station, said Shimul had love affairs with the daughter of Santos Kumar Dey of the village. nShimul went to meet his girlfriend on the Valentine's Day on February 14 when some youths detained him. Later, they tortured him for two days keeping him confined to a room. Meanwhile, the victim's family filed a general diary with Bhujpur Police Station on Friday night over the missing of Shimul. Later, Santos handed over the youth to the police station on Saturday and he was taken home. However, he died at night. On information, police recovered the body from his house. They also arrested the girl's father in this connection, the OC added.


DMP files 5,661 cases for traffic rule violations
BSS, Dhaka

Traffic division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in their simultaneous drives on the city streets on Sunday filed 5,661 cases against different modes of vehicles for traffic rule violations. It also realised Taka 29.33 lakh as fine for traffic rule violation, said an official release. Of the total cases, 979 cases were lodged for driving on wrong sides, 112 for using hydraulic horn, six for using hotter and beckon light and 15 others for using tinted glass. Police filed 2,249 cases against motorcycles and seized 117 others for violation of the traffic rules. Traffic police has dumped 21 vehicles and wrecked 710 others.


Office bearers of KUJ
BSS, Khulna

Md Munshi Mahbub Alam Sohag (Mohona TV) and Sayeduzzaman Samrat (Purbanchal) have been elected president and general secretary respectively in biennial election of Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) on Sunday. Chairman of the election committee senior journalist Wadudur Rahman Panna announced the unofficial result after completing votes. Other elected office-bearers are Vice-Presidents Humayun Kabir (Ajker Tathya) and Mahendranath Sen (’71 TV), Joint Secretary Neymul Hossain Kochy (Somoy TV), Treasurer Avijit Paul (Independent TV) Office Secretary Joynal Farazi of Daxinanchal Pratidin, Publicity Secretary Nur Hassan Jhony (Dainik Tathya) and three executive members Anwarul Islam Kazol (Purbanchal), Bimol Saha (Dainik Prabaha) and Al Mahmud Hasan Prince (Somor Khabor).


JCI meeting held in capital
STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

The 1st GMM (General Members Meeting) of Junior Chamber of International (JCI) Dhaka Young was held on Friday last in the capital, says a press release. The chamber’s members along with the current president Ms. Shaheen Ismail Mona and Executive Vice President Imtiaz Chaudhury were also present in the programme. During this assembly, the upcoming plans and events for the year were also discussed. Raquib Mahboob and Muqtadirul Huq were sworn in as the General Legal Council and Director respectively. 2019 JCI Bangladesh Development Council Chairperson, Abu Taleb Siddique was also present during the meeting.
