Female RMG worker found dead
UNB, Savar

Police recovered the body of a female garment worker from Durgapur Uttarpara area in Ashulia here on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Shampa Akhter, 28, wife of Billal Hossain, hailing from Sadullahpur Sadar in Gaibandha district and also a worker of Southern Garments in the area. Being informed by locals, police recovered the body and sent it to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said Sub-inspector Nayon Mia of Ashulia Police Station. Quoting locals, the SI said that Shampa’s husband used to torture her very often for dowry and they had a quarrel on the Saturday night. A case of unnatural death was logged with the police station, said the SI adding that the victim’s husband flee the scene immediately after the incident.


Indigenous girl ‘commits suicide’
UNB, Chattogram

An indigenous girl reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Khulshi in the city on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Owain Ching, 23, daughter of Onshui Marma, hailing from Betbunia in Rangamati, and was a tenant of ‘Syed Tower’ at Road no. 1, block-C of Khulshi road. She was an employee of Bangladesh Railway. The girl informed one of her friends Brishti over messenger before committing suicide, said Sheikh Md Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Khulshi Police Station, quoting victim’s friend Anny. Later, she rushed there and found Owain Ching hanging, said the OC. On information, police recovered the body.


Haqqani Mission’s seminar held
BSS, Dhaka

A seminar of Haqqani Mission Bangladesh (Hamiba) titled “This is the time to encourage people to establish the truth” was held on Saturday at Dhaka University. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque was present at the function held at Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium, said a press release. Jagannath University Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Mijanur Rahman, Bangladesh Open University VC Prof Dr M A Mannan, Director General of Islamic Foundation Shamim Mohammad Afjal and Chief Adviser of Hamiba Advocate AKM Sohel Ahmed were present at the programme as special guests. Hamabi Executive president Shah Dr Mohammad Alauddin Lalon presented the key note speech. Hamabi secretary general Shah NC Rudra gave the welcome speech.
