ACC chief for collective efforts to stop corruption

BSS, Dhaka

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood today stressed the need for collective efforts in curing corruption, saying, “It is quite impossible to stop corruption by a single organisation.”  “Awareness against corruption has been increased due to the government’s good will to this respect for which corruption in many areas has already been decreased while it has been remained stagnant at some other areas,” he said at a view exchange meeting at Segun Bagicha’s ACC headquarters here.

The meeting was arranged to exchange views with students of 30 universities and medical colleges aimed at getting suggestion from them to effectively fight the corruption.

Advocating for ensuring quality education to get rid of the menace, he said, “There might be no person in the society who don’t afraid of ACC. But, it is impossible to win everything by fright. Quality and moral education are necessary to stop corruption.”

Referring to 63 per cent conviction rate in corruption cases, he said, “We are yet to reduce corruption at expected level. But 63 percent conviction rate in corruption cases is a success of our collection efforts.” Student of Dhaka University student Shams Asif Chowdhury, Jahangirnagar University student Shampa Guho and Md Saidur Rahman, Chattagraom University student Arpita Mohajon, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University student Tamanna Rifat Ara and Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University student Toton Chandra Debnath, were, among others, spoke on the occasion.
