‘A Pair of Horns on a Female Homo Sapiens’ by Saleh Kashefi from Iran has won the Cinemascope Best Film Award at the Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) this year. Besides, Swedish film ‘Handsfree’ won the ULAB Young Filmmaker Award.

The winners have been announced on the final day of DIMFF on Saturday, which took place on the permanent campus of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) in the capital.

Saleh Kashefi is a young filmmaker. He was born on August 1, 1999. His 10-minute short film ‘A Pair of Horns on a Female Homo Sapiens’ is mainly based on the social position of women in Iran and the discrimination that they have faced. The young filmmaker has also made a mark nationally and internationally and has got several awards.

This year, 95 films from 34 countries were submitted while 38 films were selected for the festival. Out of which, 10 films were selected in the competition category. The other films in the competition category were ‘Sentinels’, ‘With love from God’, ‘Nature’, ‘Focus’, ‘Margherita’, ‘Missed Call’, ‘Salvation of Oxygen’, ‘The Thespian’, ‘The Story of a Motorbike’.

The main highlight of this year’s DIMFF was One Minute Film category where students from class 1 to class 12 have participated as filmmakers. The film ‘Handsfree’ became the winner in the category ULAB Young Filmmaker. Another film titled ‘Story’, directed by Bangladeshi young filmmaker Muzahidul Islam Zahin, competed in this category. Other than that, there were also 26 films in the Screening category.

Director-writer Matin Rahman was present as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of DIMFF on February 15. Besides, members of the jury panel, filmmaker Proshun Rahman, cinematographer Rashed Zaman and writer Bidhan Ribeiro also attended the ceremony.

DIMFF was organised by Cinemascope, a film apprenticeship programme of ULAB. They started their journey in 2015.

The film submission process for the next year will be started from April 2019, the organisers of the event informed.
