Two filling stations fined in Dhaka

Staff Reporter, Dhaka

The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) yesterday (Monday) filed cases against two petrol pumps in the capital for cheating customers by filling their vehicles with lower amounts of fuel and for violating the Standards of Weights and Measures Act, 2018. The BSTI surveillance team conducted drives against several filling stations and found that the Trust Fillings Station at Elenbari area and City Filling Station at Tejgaon have been cheating customers by filling up less fuel.

The team filed cases against the owners of the filling stations under the Standards of Weights and Measures Act, 2018, a press release said.

The BSTI team found proof that Trust Fillings Station is cheating to the extent of 50 to 300 millilitres of octane per 10 litres of octane. On the other hand, the team found that City Filling Station is supplying 160 millilitres more diesel per 10 litres, which is also a violation of the Act. The highest level of supplies of more fuels is 10 to 60 millilitres.

BSTI director (metrology) Anwar Hossain Molla and deputy director (metrology) Rezaul Haque and other field-level officers conducted the drive. “It’s a crime to provide less or more fuel to the customer. That is why the cases were filed against the filling stations,” Molla said.
