Wife held over Ctg doctor’s ‘suicide’

Police have arrested the wife of Doctor Mostafa Morshed Akash over his ‘suicide’. Tanjila Haq Chowdhury Mitu was arrested from the port city’s Nandankanon area on Thursday night,  said police.

A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) conducted a drive in the area and arrested Mitu,  hours after physician Mostafa Morshed Akash reportedly killed himself with an insulin overdose, Additional Deputy Commissioner (South) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Mizanur Rahman said at a press briefing in the city  yesterday.

Mitu, however, has been keeping mum about various other important issues, he said. "She has been held over her husband's Facebook status before killing himself and his family's verbal complaint," Mizanur said.

Akash's family is filing case against her at Chandgaon Police Station for instigating suicide. Police said they would take legal actions once the case is filed and would investigate whether any of her friends were involved in the instigation.

CTTC unit chief Mohammad Shahidullah said they had interrogated Mitu. "She has admitted to cheating and conjugal disputes but avoided answering some other questions," he said. Police said they had seized the mobile phone used by Akash and the physician's Facebook status about his wife has been deleted. Akash, 33, reportedly killed himself over family feud in Chandgaon residential area in the city after an altercation with his wife about her alleged illicit affairs. Family members said, before his apparent suicide, Akash had shared photos of his wife on his Facebook profile and wrote about her alleged extramarital affairs before announcing his decision to end own life.
