Special correspondent, Dhaka
PM to meet officials of home ministry today

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to meet home ministry officials today as part of her review meetings with different ministries and divisions. During the meeting, officials of the Security Service Division and the Public Security Division will separately apprise the PM of the ministry’s ongoing activities and projects, the law and order situation, and special drives like the anti-narcotics drive in the country. Hasina is likely to ask the ministry, especially the police department, to provide the required services to the people in order to rebuild the force’s image. She is also likely to warn the officials concerned against corruption in their respective offices. The PM had visited the public administration ministry on Thursday and warned the officials against graft in the administration, including at the field level.

During her visit to the home miistry, Hasina is likely to direct the director general of narcotics department to take more action against drug smugglers, especially yaba traders, to curb the menace of narcotics in the country.

At the same time, the chiefs of the home ministry’s different departments, law enforcement and intelligence agencies are likely to raise their problems and report the successes of their respective organisations at the meeting.

As part of her review meetings with bureaucrats, the PM will visit more ministries gradually to boost the civil administration to speed up the implementation of mega projects.
