Mahadi again in final

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

Young Bangladeshi tennis player Mahadi Hasan Alve continued his stellar performance by sealing the final berth of boys’ singles in ITF Asian U-14 Development Championship 2019 Division 2 second leg tennis tournament yesterday. Roman Hossain also reached the final with Pakistan’s Hamid Israr Gul in boys’ doubles.

Nepal’s Aryan Giri gave Mahadi stiff competition in semi-final’s first set but his efforts were in vain as Mahadi won the first set and in the second set he did not gave the Nepalese any chance. Mahadi won the match by 7-6, 6-1.

In other semi-final of the boys’ singles, Jordanian Mohammad Alkotop shattered the chance of an all Bangladesh final by thumping Roman Hossain out of the semi-final. Roman failed to dominate and got the better of him in the both rounds and picked up a win of 2-6, 4-6.

Roman Hossain did not repeat the same mindset in his boys’ doubles semi-final but bagging the final berth was not that easy for Roman and Hamid. In their semi-final clash againt Iran’s Amirili Ghavam and Jordan’s Zaid Mashni, Roman-Hamid started the first set rampantly and won it but Amirili-Zaid pair bounced back in the second round to take the match into third set tie breaker. It was also neck to neck in the third set but Roman-Hamid had the last laugh as they overcome Amirli-Zaid by 6-1, 4-6, 11-9.

Second leg boys’ final will be the second final’s encounter between Mohammad Alkotop and Mahadi Hasan Alve. The Jordanian previously deprived Mahadi from winning the first leg boys’ singles final. This time Mahadi would like to settle the scores by beating Alkotop and lifting the second leg final trophy.
