UNB/ BSS, Chattogram

At least persons were killed in separate incidents in the port city yesterday, on Wednesday and Tuesday. A woman was crushed to death by a train in Ponthisila Hadipara area of Sitakunda Upazila yesterday. The 62-year-old victim was named as Wahida Begum, the wife of late Safiul Alam of Hadipara.

She was run over by Chattogram-bound 'Sonar Bangla' train while walking on the tracks around noon, Sub-Inspector Nur Mohammad of Sitakunda Railway Police said, quoting locals. She was killed on the spot.

Police recovered the body and handed it over to the family.

BSS adds: Two persons, including a college girl, were killed in separate incidents in the port city on Wednesday.

Suma Borua, 20, a HSC second year student of Government City College of Chattogram, died after she was run over by a covered van in Kotwali crossing in the city around 9:40 am, said Mohammad Mohoshin, officer in-charge (OC) of Kotowali thana.

The high speed covered van ran over her while she was crossing the road in front of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) on her way to college, the OC said.

Police detained its driver Jashim Uddin and seized the covered van after the incident, he added. In another incident, housewife Tahera Begum, 32, was beaten to death allegedly by her husband named Nur Hossain at Raufabad Tuesday night.

Mohammad Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bayezid Bostami thana, said Nur Hossain engaged in an altercation with Tahera over family feud on Tuesday evening.

At one stage, Nur Hossain beat Tahera cruelly, leaving her dead on the spot.
