52 gold bars seized at Sylhet airport   

UNB, Sylhet

Customs officials seized 52 gold bars worth around Tk 2.7 crore from an aircraft at Sylhet Osmani International Airport yesterday morning.

Ahmedur Reza Chowdhury, an assistant commissioner of customs intelligence, said the gold bars, weighing 6.32 kilograms, were concealed in a box under a seat of Biman Bangladesh Airline's flight BG-248 that arrived here from Dubai around 9 am.

Four held while ‘consuming yaba tablets in Ctg

UNB, Chattogram

Police arrested four people, including city BNP Office Secretary Tinku Das, while they were allegedly consuming yaba pills at Chaitannogoli area under Kotwali Police Station on Friday night.

The other arrestees Firoz Alam, 32, Md Shahjahan, 50, Md Baki, 39.

On information, a team of police conducted a drive on the rooftop of a house in the area and caught them red-handed around 9pm. They recovered 60 pieces of yaba tablets from their possession, said officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Mohammad Mohsin. A case filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act, the OC added.

MP’s bother-in-law found dead in Ctg

UNB, Chattogram

The brother-in-law of Awami League MP MA Latif was found dead at his residence at Bark Mia School intersection in Fakirhat area of the port city on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Tofael Ahmed Rafiq, 57. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Port) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Arefin Jewel said Rafiq's sons spotted him lying blood stained in his room in the evening and rushed him to nearby Mother and Child Care Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Rafiq's body bore some injury marks in his head, added Arefin.
