Subashish blows Barishal away

Khulna in better position against Rajshahi
Sports Reporter

Fast bowlers showed their ascendancy on the second day of the fourth-round fixture over the batters after the first day was dominated by spinners in the ongoing Walton-National Cricket League (NCL) yesterday.

Pacer Subashish Roy’s five-wicket haul helped Rangpur Division skittle out Barishal Division for paltry 147 in the Tier-1 encounter at the Rangpur Cricket Garden.

Rangpur vs Barishal

After bowling out Rangpur Division for scanty 147, Barishal Division fell into devastation of the Rangpur’s bowlers especially fast-bowler Subashish Roy to start their proceedings.

National discarded pacer rattled Barishal’s top-order batsmen. Of them, he sent back opener Shahriar Nafees and one-drop Shamshul Islam cheaply.

Together with Al-Amin Junior, opener Rafsan Al Mahmud (40) strived to build up a big partnership by tackling the initial batting collapse. The duo made a helpful 53-run third-wicket before breaking their partnership.

Just 13 runs later, Barishial yet again sustained a mini-collapse as they mislaid three wickets on the same score while the visitors were tattering at 79 for six.

Subashish Roy completed his fifer in the current league with Sohag Gazi’s scalp. This was Roy’s third time five-for in his 62-match first class cricket career. The paceman leaked 49 runs to take his spoils.

Nuruzzaman then shared a thriving 43 with Kamrul Islam Rabbi for the eighth-wicket but Nuruzzaman (18) was removed by leg-spinner Tanvir Haider. Finally Barishal were bundled out for the identical 147 runs. Rabbi was at stumps on 27.

In reply, Rangpur Division put on 77-3 before the bails were drawn for the day. Mahmudul Hasan remained unbeaten on 27 with Suhrawardi Shuvo scoring six.

Sylhet vs Metro

In response to Sylhet Division’s first innings 312, Dhaka Metropolis made a shaky start when they lost openers- Shykat Ali (16) was dismissed by Shahnur Rahman and Shadman Islam Anik (18) was accountable for Syed Khaled Ahmed, who finally took the four wickets including prized wicket of Marshal Ayub. The young pacer finished with 4-69.

Captain Marshall Ayub and Shamsur Rahman Shuvo made a gritty resistance and shared an invaluable 104-run for the third wicket stand before Enamul Haque Junior broke the solid-stand removing Shuvo. This national discarded batsman struck a patient 63 off 120 deliveries with seven boundaries. Then Ayub attempted to extend the total with Mohammad Ashraful, Mehrab Hossain Junior and Zabid Hossain but Shahnur Rahman removed Ashraful before Mehrab’s run-out by Enamul Jurior.

Before walked back to the pavilion, Ayub completed his fifty. His 147-ball 74 that was littered with 11 fours.

After departing Qazi Anik and Shahidul Islam, wicketkeeper-batsman Zabid Hossain was batting on 39 not out with Asif Hossain making two.

Rajshahi vs Khulna

Resuming the second day on 281-7, Khulna Division added 28 runs at the cost of the remaining three-wicket to muster 309 in their first innings. Overnight batsman Ziaur Rahman missed his half-century for seven runs.

Shafiul Islam, Forhad Reza and Sunzamul Islam evenly shared nine spoils between them.

Rajshahi Division, in reply, made a good start as they lost their firs wicket for 61 when Mizanur Rahman fell into leg-before trap of Al Amin Hossain. The batsman fell seven runs short of his fifty.

Zunaid Siddique made an alliance of 104 runs with Forhad Hossain for the third-wicket. But Zunaid was ill-fated as he also missed his fifty for three runs.

Even though Zunaid and Mizanur missed his respective half-century, Forhad Hossain completed his fifty before being dismissed by Soumya Sarkar, who picked up two wickets each with Al Amin Hossain. Sabbir Rahman Rumman was not out on 16 with Muktar Ali being scored yet.

Dhaka vs Chattogram

Chattogram Division compiled 223 for eight in response to Dhaka Division’s first innings 288. Captain Yasir Ali top-scored for Chattogram with 60 off 110, clobbering five fours and a six.

Mahidul Islam Ankon (40), Iftekhar Sajjad (46), Pinak Ghosh (22), Tasamul Haque (15) were the other notable scorers.

Naeem Hasan remained unbeaten on 16.
