Soumya Sarkar and Al Amin Hossain shared nine spoils that restricted Rangpur Division to 315- 11 runs more than their first innings- against Khulna Division on the day third of the round-3 encounter in the top tier of the National Cricket League (NCL) at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna yesterday.

Holders Khulna then put on 181 for five in second innings before the bails were drawn for the third day, meaning that they have a lead of 170 runs with five wickets remaining.

Despite Tasamul Haque’s patient hundred, Chattogram Division managed to muster 236 in response to Dhaka Metropolis’ first innings 287 at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura in Tier-2 fixture.

Khulna vs Rangpur

Resuming the day third on 200-4, Rangpur Division added another 115 runs at the cost of the rest six wickets. As soon as adding just one run with his overnight 47, Suhrawardi Shuvo turned to be Al Amin Hossain’s fourth wicket. But Tanbir Haider made a gritty resistance against the quality Khulna’s bowling attack. Tanbir stitched together a string of partnerships to widen the total further including an invaluable 71 with captain Sajedul Islam for the eighth-wicket stand that crossed 300-run mark. The middle-order batsman converted his overnight five to unbeaten 67. He faced 117 deliveries where he struck half-a-dozen boundaries to be left at the wicket. Sajedul got out for 29. Soumya Sarkar claimed five for 61, while Al Amin Hossain captured four for 67. In reply, Khulna Division finished the third day with 181-5 where Soumya Sarkar made 71. Tushar Imran was unbeaten on 63.

Metro vs Chattogram

Chattogram Division mislaid their remaining four wickets for 49 In the face of Taskin Ahmed’s bowling assault after resuming the day third on 187-6. The speedster conceded 67 runs to snap up his five wickets. He was ably aided by Arafat Sunny and Shahidul Islam, the duo who evenly shared four scalps between them. Tasamul Haque successfully converted his overnight 81 to hundred while wickets were tumbling at other end. He clouted 185-ball 116 that emblazoned with 13 fours and two sixes. Mehedi Hasan Rana holed out for 25.

In reply, Dhaka Metro compiled 191 for six despite young Naeem Hassan’s cunning spin bowling that gave them a comprehensive 242-run lead against Chattogram Division.

Naeem gave away 99 runs to grab five wickets for the local side. Shadman Islam Anik, who clubbed back-to-back hundreds in the last two rounds, missed to strike this time around as he fell to Shakhawat Hossain for 62. Shykat Ali (40), Mehrab Hossain Jr (26) and Mohammad Ashraful (23) were the other contributors. Shamsur Rahman, who was retired hurt in the first innings on 51, was at stumps on 31 with Sharifullah scoring two.

After being two-day abandoned due to wet outfield for the effects of cyclonic storm Tetli, the matches at Barishal and Cox’s Bazar have been started. Rajshahi Division were not at good position after being bundled out Barishal Division for a paltry 133 at Barishal Divisional Stadium as the visitors scored 125 for nine. Medium fast-bowler Forhad Reza rattled the local side after Taijul Islam and Muktar Ali. Forhad captured four for 30. Nuruzzaman top-scored for Barishal with 38.

A combined effort from Sohag Gazi, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Monir Hossain and Tanvir Islam collapsed Rajshahi Division’s innings. Sohag took three scalps for Barishal. Rabbi, Monir and Tanvir snared a brace each. Muktar Ali was on 35 not out with Abdul Gaffar making five.

At Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS) Academy Ground in Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet Division collected 229 for two against Dhaka Division with Zakir Hasan hitting 84 and Rajin Saleh making 64. Captain Imtiaz Hossain exited for 41 and Towfiq Khan for 35.
