Bangladesh iconic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was discharged from Apollo Hospitals Dhaka yesterday, just three days after his successful operation on his injured little left finger.

He responded well after giving him anti-biotic what was given him at preliminary stage. He could be gone under knife for another major operation what is also must needed for him three weeks after his proper recuperation from his injury.

Dr M Ali, senior consultant and coordinator, orthopedics, Trauma, Joint care and wellness centre, Apollo Hospitals Dhaka, revealed all at the press briefing of physical condition of Shakib Al Hasan on the hospital premises in the capital yesterday.

Dr Ali was accompanied by Director Medical Services Dr Shanthi Bansal, Senior General Manager Medical Services Dr Arif, Director Business Development Shantanu Kumar Das and General Manager Aftab Mahmud Khurshid, among others, were also present.

“World famed Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan came to Apollo Hospitals Dhaka with his acute pain and swollen left little finger on September 27. We took the matter with due importance and decided to perform an operation quickly after consulting with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB),” said Dr M Ali.

“His operation had been finished within two hours after his admission to hospital. By operation, 50-60 gm infected of pus has been extracted from his injured finger. We, therefore, sent it at laboratory to perform culture and sensitivity test to mitigate the infection related difficulties,” Ali told media.

“It’s known from the report that the infection was happened by pseudomonas bacteria.  Our operation has been done successful. Getting swift recuperation, he was discharged from the hospital today (September 30),” he added.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon went to Apollo Hospitals to see ailing Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan. Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and promising all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraj also went to see Shakib before his release from the hospital yesterday.

Shakib, who was fighting with his finger injury for so many days, missed to play the ‘virtual’ semi-final showdown match against Pakistan on September 26 after his condition deteriorated. So, he returned home from UAE, keeping Asia Cup campaign incomplete.

After his arrival in Dhaka, he was taken to Apollo hospitals where doctors performed an immediate surgery on his injured left little finger.

The left-handed mercurial all-rounder got injured during the tri-nation final against Sri Lanka at home turf on January 27 this year.

The south-paw was ruled out of the subsequent Test and T20 International series against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

He then played three-match T20 series against Afghanistan in Dehradun, India in June and starred on the full tour of the West Indies with bat and ball. But upon his return from the Caribbean tour, Shakib expressed his desire to have a surgery as early as possible.
