RU to confer DLitt on Hasan Azizul, Selina

The Rajshahi University (RU) authorities will honour eminent litterateurs Professor Hasan Azizul Haque and Professor Selina Hossain with the DLitt (Doctor of Literature) degree at its 10th convocation on September 29, for their outstanding contribution to Bangla literature. Professor Provas Kumar, administrator of RU Public Relations Office, said the decision was taken at a syndicate meeting a few months ago. Both Selina Hossain and Hasan Azizul Haque were students of Rajshahi University. Selina Hossain obtained her bachelor's degree in Bangla in 1967 and post-graduate degree in 1968. She received Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1980, Ekushey Padak in 2009 and Independence Award in 2018. Her major works include Hangor Nodi Grenade (1976), a novel set during the Liberation War of Bangladesh. Hasan Azizul Haque studied philosophy at the university and earned his post-graduate degree in 1960. He joined the department as a lecturer in 1973 and retired in 2004. Azizul also received Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1970 and Ekushey Padak in 1999.

Certificate course on ‘Prevention of  Violent Extremism’ held at DU

A Certificate Course on ‘Prevention of Violent Extremism’ was held at Dhaka University (DU). DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Akhtaruzzaman distributed certificates among the participants of the course yesterday, said a press release. Center for Genocide Studies of DU organised the programme at its conference room. Speaking on the occasion, DU VC said that the genocide of 1971 by Pakistan reminded us about violent extremism. “Dhaka University was one of the centers of Pakistani soldiers and their collaborators for mass killings and inhuman activities in 1971. The purpose of the Genocide Studies Center is to keep the country’s history alive among students and researchers,” he said.Chairperson of Center for Genocide Studies Prof Imtiaz Ahmed presided over. Professor Dr Delwar Hossain and Robert Storeman of UNDP were also present. A total 18 journalists of print, electronic and online media houses participated in the five-day course.

Annual camp of DU Rover Scouts held

A three-day annual camp of Dhaka University Rover Scout Group ended on Saturday at Teacher-Student Center (TSC) of Dhaka University (DU). DU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Samad gave an initiation to the scouts at a ceremony as the chief guest, said a DU press release. Earlier, on September 20, DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the camp where National Commissioner of Bangladeshi scouts Mahmud Atiquzzaman Ripon was present.

IU’s inter-departmental soccer semi-final today

The inter-departmental football semifinal match of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia will be held today on the campus. According to IU sources, the first semi-final match will be held around 10:00am between Law department and Public Administration department.  On the other hand, English department and Electrical & Electronics Engineering department from Arts faculty and Applied Science and Technology faculty will chase each other at the second semi-final.
