BSS

President M Abdul Hamid yesterday urged the Bangladesh Bar Council to take measures to enhance professional competence of the country’s lawyers as a delegation of its newly-elected members made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban in the capital, reports BSS. “The President said the role of lawyers is very important in providing legal support to the people,” President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told the news agency after the meeting.

Abdul Hamid also advised the Bar council leaders to take multi-pronged steps to ensure welfare of the lawyers.

He put emphases on the proper scrutiny in the Bangladesh Bar Council Enrollment Advocateship examination so that skilled and knowledgeable people can only come out successful. Bar Council Chairman and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam led the 10-member delegation in the meeting where Bar Council Vice-Chairman Muhammad Yusuf Hussain Humayun and secretaries concerned to the President were present.

During the meeting, the President was apprised by them of different activities of the Bar Council and highlighted various steps taken by it for welfare of the lawyers.

Abdul Hamid was informed about the various infrastructural developments, including Bar Council’s own building, at the estimated cost of Taka 117 crore, the Bangabhaban spokesman said.

The delegation sought the President’s cooperation for the development of the Bangladesh Bar Council.

The President also assured the Bar Council representatives of providing all-out cooperation to resolve all existing problems in the days to come.

He hoped that the present leadership of the Bar Council would be able to play a role for welfare of the lawyers.
