Riyad hopes to fare well in opener against SL

Sports Reporter

Bangladesh senior player Mahmudullah Riyad hoped to have an expected result against Sri Lanka in their Asia Cup opener on September 15 as he believed that the recent past good performances against the Island nation would help them to draw some inspiration.

"I think we have got some good past memories against Sri Lanka from a few months back. Sri Lanka is a very good team, and they are playing very good cricket and we have to be at our best to beat them. We have been preparing quite well at home. So hopefully we can deliver,” Mahmudullah said ahead of their rigorous training session at Dubai Sports City's ICC Academy yesterday.

Afghanistan is the another team in Bangladesh’s group and also could pose a threat given the weather suits them well. The hot and humid weather in Dubai is believed to be the nemesis of Bangladesh and so they came here quickly to cope with the condition.

"At the moment, it is quite humid, but as professional players we have to adapt to different conditions and embrace the situation that comes our way, and we have to take it further on a positive note," he added.

Knowing that as a senior batsman he would have to take a bulk of responsibilities and make vital contributions, he said, “"It always feels good to contribute to the team and if the team is winning it feels even better. I will try to keep it simple and try and contribute as much as I can. To be honest, I think all the teams are playing very good cricket at the moment, every match is very important. We can't afford to relax, and we need to take it game by game, so that we can do well in the first stage."
